3 Tips for Sun Safety

sun protectionThe sun gives us warmth, life, and a fabulous tan.  The only problem with the fabulous tan part is that it can create other problems. Although we love the feel of the sun on our skin and it is important for vitamin D absorption, it can cause skin cancer so it’s important to incorporate these 3 tips for sun safety into our everyday lives.

1. Sunscreen

It is important to use sunscreen every day even in the winter if you are exposing yourself to the sun’s rays.  If you plan to be in the sun for an extended period of time, then reapplication is a must.  In fact, reapplying every 90 minutes is recommended for your skin’s health.  Skin cancer does not happen right away; It takes years of sun damage before it is detected but the effects can be devastating.

You might consider using a self-tanner. The best one I’ve come across to date is “FakeBake“.  It comes in an aerosol, a cream, and a liquid. It can be applied to the face as well as the body.  We sell it here at Perfect Pinky if you are interested in giving it a try. Regardless of the product you use, this is a great way to get a healthy “tan”. Tanning beds are known to have the same negative effects as the sun so I do not recommend using them.

2. Cover up – SPF Clothing

Another way to prevent sun damage is to stay covered.  SPF clothing is available as well as sun hats. Not only are you protecting against cancer but against premature aging as well. No one likes to look older than their age, and staying covered can certainly help with that.

3. Eye Protection

Sunglasses are also very important during the day. They protect your eyes from the harmful rays. We now know how damaging it is to the retina. Without a healthy retina, loss of sight is inevitable.  We have a beautiful selection of sunglasses right here at Perfect Pinky! So, there is fashionable eyewear, fashionable clothing as well as fashionable self-tanning products available for you to get your summer glow. It just takes a little extra effort to make sure you are protected.
